What is search engine optimization?

Search engine optimization is the process of fine-tuning the web pages of a web site to achieve higher search engine rankings.

Every search engine uses its own formula to decide which web sites come closest to matching its users' queries. That secret formula, called an algorithm, is what determines whether a site will appear on the first page of the user's search results or on the 20th -- or on none at all. By optimizing your site, you can have some say in this ranking process.

Why is search engine optimization so important?

Search engine optimization is both cost-effective and just plain effective. It's a cheaper and better marketing tool than banner ads, pop-up windows or mass mailings.

Why optimization ?

Search listings are 8 times more likely to be remembered and 20 times more likely to be clicked on than banners or buttons.
NPD Group, January 2001

55% of all e-commerce transactions originate with a search listing.
Booz-Allen & Hamilton Research

There are over three billion Web pages on the Internet, and this number is expected to grow more than fivefold in the next three years.

Our contribution for web site optimization:

Once we have made a contract with a client, our first step in the process is to optimize the site. The four major parts of the page we consider are:

URL's

Meta tags

Content

Overall Design
Link Popularity

URL's

What is a URL name?
The URL name is the part of the URL that comes between "www" and ".com." It's the name of the site. For example, in the case of the URL http://www.searchengines.com, the URL name is "searchengines."

Why should I have keywords in my URL name?
Recently, search engines began to prioritize the use of keywords in a site's URL in their ranking formulas. Google and Inktomi are two engines that do this. Google is extremely important because Yahoo! uses it to supplement its search results. Because Yahoo! accounts for at much as half of many sites' traffic, Google's ranking formula is of more concern than ever.

Meta Tags for Web Site Promotion

Keywords are those terms that people enter into a search engine in attempt to find a web site. The meta tags contain parts of the website that the search engine reads in order to determine the rank. In particular, engines consider the title, description, and keyword meta tags.

Content

The content of a particular site is a crucial factor in determining the position of your website in a search query. Your site should provide adequate information for search engines and visitors who know little or nothing about your services.

Overall Design

Even though a top rank gives a website visibility, it does not guarantee that a steady flow of traffic will continue to visit the site. A professionally designed page encourages visitors to visit your website again and again.

Link Popularity in web site promotion

Link analysis is becoming one of the most important elements in a website. Web Site Promotion Company provides an in-depth link analysis on all clients' sites.

Search engines consider the quality and number of in-bound and out-bound links. The out-bound links are those sites in which you are connected. Because it is common sense to never link to a competitors' web site, each out-bound link should complement your service. Reciprocal linking (i.e. if we have an out-bound link to a particular site, we ask for that site to create an out-bound link to our site) is a strategy that we use in order to develop in-bound links. We have had success in positioning web sites by placing a few high quality links in a page rather than many random links to irrelevant sites.
